Note: When a board position is available, specific requirements regarding the vacancy will be announced. The application procedure can differ depending on the specific board position.

Board as Applications Committee
The board will act as Applications Committee for new board members. This means the board speaks to all candidates so they have an opportunity to highlight their motivations and ideas. The procedure is as follows:

1. Announcement by the board
* Announcement via e-mail to PROUDmembers, mentioning: available board position, requirements
for the position, application procedure and relevant deadlines
* At least 6 weeks before the General Members Meeting

2. Introductory interview candidates
* At least 2 board members attend the interview
* Topics of discussion are the candidate’s experience, motivations, ideas

3. Consideration and communication
* Board considers per applicant whether they are qualified based on the introductory interview and, if relevant, previous experience at PROUD
* Board communicates to candidates how many members have applied
* Board communicates to the candidates that they can give introduce themselves and highlight their
motivations at the General Members Meeting

4. Election at General Members Meeting
* Board communicates how many members applied for the board position
* Candidate-boardmembers introduce themselves to the members
* Via anonymous voting, the new board member is elected

But because our founder Mariska Majoor will open her exhibit ‘United Under a Red Umbrella’ in Utrecht that day, we decided to move our protest to that city this year.

We will gather at Amsterdam CS at 13.30, at the piano (take the stairs close to the Amstelpassage towards track 2b). Please be on time, we will take the 14.05 train to Utrecht. There we will wait at the Jaarbeursezijde (close to the city hall) until 15.00, so people from other parts of the country can join us. At 15.15 we will start our march towards the Janskerkhof.

The exhibition ‘United Under a Red Umbrella’ will be festively opened at 4 p.m. with a speech by Mariska and a panel discussion where there will be room for questions and debate. Afterwards there is music with a snack and a drink. PROUD will be present with an “Ask a Sex Worker” booth.

‘United under a Red Umbrella’ was invited to Utrecht University on the initiative of Re-Imagining Sex Work and in collaboration with the Willem Pompe Institute of Criminal Law. The exhibition can be seen until January 15, 2020 during the usual opening hours of Janskerkhof 3 in Utrecht.

These past two weeks, members of both PIC and PROUD as well as allies have gathered at the Amsterdam Museum to protest the anti-sex work exhibition by “artist” Jimini Hignett (info about the exposition can be found here: https://www.amsterdammuseum.nl/tentoonstellingen/nr-1-tourist-attraction). We protest against the stigmatizing and false information about sex work currently being displayed at the museum. Some examples of the “information” being given are that sex workers have disproportionate rates of HIV/AIDS, that we were abused and lack confidence which is why we get into prostitution, that we have to take drugs to cope with our work, and of course that all prostitution is exploitative and violent towards women. The exposition also displays PIC and PROUD items, but of course slanders the name of these organizations by saying that we provide a “sanitized” image of prostitution. Since the opening, the PIC has talked to people at Amsterdam Museum and the museum has made it very clear they will not close this exhibition down because they “respect the freedom of the artist.” They will also not correct any of the lies in the exposition itself but have created space in a room next door to display any fact-checks we might want to provide, as well as emails people have sent in criticizing the museum and the Belle Revisited part. So long as the museum refuses to correct the lies in the exposition itself and this exposition remains open, PIC will continue to protest weekly. So far this has occurred on Fridays around 12-14:00, but the dates and times might change. The government proposed “Regulation on Sex Work” is harming the rights of sex workers all over the Netherlands! The stated intent of the Government is to “protect” the rights of sex workers with things like

1] The compulsory registration, and licencing, of all sex workers in a national registry

2]  The limitation of the number of physical working spaces for sex workers

3] The re-introduction of a variation of the “Pimp Law”, where every third-party associated with unlicenced sex workers can be considered their “pimp”

4] The criminalization of clients who receive the services of unlicenced sex workers

All these measures stem from a perspective that victimizes sex workers and views sex work as an inherently exploitative profession.  They have been tried in several other european countries and have failed to promote sex workers’ rights or protect victims of trafficking. All these measures ignore the collective experience of the worldwide sex workers’ rights movement.

The proposed law further exposes us to danger by allowing municipalities to limit the number of working spaces on arbitrary grounds of preference and public order. When asked, sex workers in the Netherlands indicated that having access to public, organized, and safe working spaces is the single most contributing factor to the betterment of their physical safety, psychological well-being, and overall health. This, combined with the proposed criminalization of clients who meet with unlicensed sex workers, has the potential to increase the incidents of violence against sex workers.

The proposed law will only push more sex work underground and deteriorate our working conditions, while letting victims of human trafficking go unnoticed.

We will not allow that to happen!

Nothing about us, without us

Vorige week heeft het kabinet de nieuwe Wet Regulering Sekswerk gepresenteerd.
En zoals verwacht zijn daar allemaal dingen in opgenomen waar wij het niet mee eens zijn.
– Verplichte registratieplicht
– Vergunningsplicht
– Pooierwet, wat inhoudt dat iedereen die met onvergunde sekswerkers werkt, strafbaar is (Denk hierbij aan je boekhouder, beveiliger, chauffeur, verhuurder van je locatie etc).

Dit is natuurlijk te zot voor woorden, deze maatregelen worden gepresenteerd alsof ze ons beter gaan beschermen tegen misstanden, maar in werkelijkheid zal dit er voor gaan zorgen dat we juist makkelijker gezien worden als targets. We hebben in andere landen immers als gezien hoe dit kan aflopen. Er zijn hier zelfs diverse rapporten over verschenen.

Daarom organiseren wij een protest!
We vragen jullie ook allemaal te komen, omdat ons dit allemaal aangaat!
We lopen door de straten van Amsterdam centrum om erna te eindigen op de Dam!

Deze demonstratie is ook voor onze medestanders dus die mogen ook zeker meelopen!

Wanneer?
We hebben er voor gekozen om dit te doen op 31 oktober, tijdens Halloween.
We starten om 16.00 bij het PIC aan de Enge Kerksteeg 3 en zullen vanaf daar gezamenlijk naar de Nieuwmarkt lopen, waar de Walk of Death begint.
Kom een half uurtje eerder, zodat we ook op tijd kunnen starten.
Aangezien het Amsterdam Museum niet reageert op de door het P.I.C. geschreven brief, maken we een kleine omweg via het museum!

Outfit
Aangezien het Halloween is, vragen we je, om je engste outfit aan te trekken. Maskers, schmink etc zijn ook toegestaan.

Sign making event
Als voorbereiding word er op dinsdag 29 oktober een sign making event georganiseerd, zodat we duidelijk onze mening kunnen tonen tijdens het protest.
Wil je ook een bord, spanddoek maken? Neem dan je (lege) bord of doek mee.

Het datalek bij de website Hookers bewijst dat niet alleen alles te hacken valt, het lag niet eens aan Hookers zelf maar aan de onderliggende software, en bewijst dat hackers hier juist naar op zoek zijn gezien het stigma, en er mensen mee willen afpersen.

We waren al zo ongerust over een dataproject van De Correspondent, waarbij de gegevens van adverterende sekswerkers zouden worden verzameld en geanalyseerd. Na vele protesten is dit gelukkig van de baan. Want was die database wel veilig, en wat als politie/ het OM deze database zou opvragen?

Dus groot was onze schok toen bleek dat er allang, in stilte, zo’n dataproject aan de gang was, en nog veel meer creepy is. Het gaat om het bedrijf Web IQ, en het Safe City (www.safe-city.io) project.  Nou, safe voelen wij er in ieder geval niet onder! Ze hebben blijkbaar 1,2 miljoen afbeeldingen van 25 advertentieplatforms afgehaald, de kans is groot dat ze daar facial recognition op toepassen. Daarnaast hebben ze 260,000 advertenties, en 31,000 telefoonnummers van sekswerkers.
Ze kunnen hun opdrachtgevers notificaties in laten stellen, dat één persoon wordt gevolgd, ook kunnen ze printscreens van een individu aanleveren. Dat is nog wat anders dan een geanonimiseerde dataset aanleveren aan een gemeente. Ze werken samen met diverse gemeenten, politie en het OM.

Is er hiervoor wel ontheffing bij de AP, de Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens, aangevraagd, weten ze wel dat ook het professionele seksuele leven van sekswerkers moet worden beschouwd als een bijzonder persoonsgegeven?

Juist vandaag bereikte ons de uitspraak van de gemeente Utrecht tegen de AP, en die bevestigde wederom dat verwerking van de gegevens van sekswerkers onrechtmatig is, en dat er geen ontheffing wordt verleend. Sekswerkers zullen zich, ook in de opmaat naar de WRS, de Wet Regulering Sekswerk, zich met hand en tand blijven verzetten tegen registratie. In de uitspraak van de gemeente Utrecht tegen de AP valt te lezen dat om sekswerkers te kunnen beschermen ze in beeld moeten zijn (en blijkbaar dus geregistreerd moeten zijn). In het licht van het datalek bij Hookers blijkt juist weer dat we vooral beschermd zijn als we níet in zulke databases staan.
