Everywhere in The Netherlands several city governments use events to permanently close down brothels or at least to discuss their permits. The fight against abuse and human trafficking have become an excuse to close down workplaces of sex workers. Sex workers Red Light District Amsterdam sue city government!

From Friday the 1st of May at least 24 window prostitutes in Amsterdam’s Red Light District are unable to use their workplaces for a unknown number of months. “The brothel operator has to give away 18 of his window brothels because in the past things happened there the sex workers themselves were not involved with”, says PROUD on behalf of the involved women. The new brothel operator has requested a permit and in the meantime the buildings aren’t allowed to be used. The women are therefore being kicked out onto the streets by the city government! Sex workers protest to save window brothels

PROUD is organizing next Thursday a big demonstration of sex workers and sympathizers against the closures of window brothels in Amsterdam. That’s when the controversial Project 1012 is on the agenda in the city council. PROUD, the union for sex workers, will hand over a list of demands to mayor Van der Laan, in which they call out to immediately suspend the planned closures of prostitution around the Old Church in the capital. PROUD happy with initiative self-exploitation in Amsterdam

PROUD, the new union for sex workers is happy with the feasibility study to self-exploitation of the city government. The union expresses the importance of structurally and bindingly involving sex workers. The organization also wants to contribute in a positive way to the project. “By self-exploitation we now get the possibility to create the most ideal workplace ourselves. After the abuse scandal of a 16 year old girl in Valkenburg, ChristenUnie youth are protesting in Amsterdam’s Red Light District. PROUD, the new union for sex workers, is furious at the protestors and is organizing a contra-protest. “This is a new height in the crusade against prostitution. The Christian fundamentalists are scaring clients away while the majority of the women in the Red Light District just wants to work quietly”, says chairwoman Mariska Majoor.
