About Us
PROUD is a union which was formally founded on the 13th of February 2015, for and by women, men and transgenders who work or have worked in the erotic services in The Netherlands, in whatever way, shape or form. PROUD consists out of a group of (ex)sex workers supported by an advisory commission which besides sex workers also consists out of scientists, academics and human rights activists. PROUD's objective and ambition is to protect the interests of sex workers in; their work, in politics, media and society. And PROUD strives to improve the rights, living- and working conditions of sex workers in The Netherlands. PROUD is the voice of its members and those are sex workers coming from different countries working in various forms, such as window prostitution, sex clubs, private houses, escort, striptease, podium performance, home prostitution, all forms of film- phone and internet etc. PROUD does not distinguish between on sex, age, nationality or legal status. PROUD is not a help organization. We are an information center and service desk for sex workers. By producing leaflets and brochures, doing fieldwork and by organizing various projects to inform sex workers about rights, obligations and other matters regarding sex work. PROUD works together with different sex work organizations in cities all over The Netherlands. By exchanging information we aim to cater the needs of sex workers to the best of our knowledge. Members of PROUD will have access to an enclosed part of the PROUD-website. Here members can exchange thoughts and experiences regarding their work. Important activities of PROUD are a strong lobby towards politics and doing fieldwork to gather and give information and to represent sex worker interests in congresses, events and (inter)national political and social meetings. One of the main objectives of PROUD is to create a realistic and more realistic image of sex work by using various types of media. Membership of PROUD means that you support the objectives, ambitions and work PROUD, and that you will have reliable information and a service desk for matters regarding your sex work.
